Wildfire emergency information

Numéros d’urgence et consignes vitales traduites pour les visiteurs non francophones — English, Español, Deutsch, Nederlands, Italiano.

Unofficial citizen mutual-aid site for the 2026 Gironde wildfires. Official instructions (préfecture, town halls, FR-Alert phone alerts) always take priority.

Emergency numbers (free, 24/7)

Fire near you

  • Move away immediately, upwind if possible. Call 112 or 18.
  • Never drive towards smoke. Do not go back for belongings.
  • FR-Alert messages on your phone come from the authorities — follow them.

If evacuation is ordered

  • Leave at once. Take ID, medication, water, phone charger, pets.
  • Close doors, windows and gas. Follow the routes shown by emergency services.
  • Go to a reception centre (listed on this site) or to relatives outside the area.

Smoke

  • Close windows, avoid outdoor exertion; a damp cloth can help you breathe.
  • The smell of smoke alone is not an emergency: only call 112 for actual danger.

Reading the map

  • RED: confirmed active fire (official announcement crossed with satellite). ORANGE: evacuation ordered.
  • YELLOW: official restriction or mention. PINK: dense satellite detections, unconfirmed.
  • TEAL/BLUE/PURPLE: help available (centre, needs). GREY: no information — never means “safe area”.

Official publications are issued in French. If in doubt, call 112 — operators usually speak English.
